Meet, greet and hear from 24 marchers – walking 400 miles across New York State – and local activists for nuclear disarmament.
They are marching to the United Nations for the May 2nd Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Conference, which is widely considered to be a make or break point for ending the spread of nuclear weapons.
On April 30-May 2, people will gather in NYC from around the world to call for a peaceful, nuclear free, secure, and just world for all!

Presque Isle Parrothead Club puts on a Haiti Benefit on March 20 at Zem Zem Shrine Club, 2525 W. 38th St., with the Uncles, Key West Express, and Thirst 'n Howl. The event includes raffles and a silent auction. Admission will be $5.

'Here Comes the Sun Benefit for Haiti show at the Zem Zem Shrine Club. Come out and enjoy the first day of Spring, and help us cast a few rays of sunshine to those who are suffering so much. Times are 6:00-midnight. Cost is only $5 at the door. There will be food and drink specials all night along with some games of chance, and auction items. If anyone would like to donate some items, or get together with a few friends to donate some auction items, let me know and we will make arrangements to get them.

Sunday March 21, 2010 On Sunday, March 21, 2010 at 4 p.m., Juanita Wallace Jackson will perform at the Robert H. Jackson Center. Her talents as an operatically-trained contralto will be featured at a free concert that will be open to the public. Entitled “Honoring the Legacy,” the program is dedicated to preserving the Spiritual as an art form. It will reveal both the genesis of the Spiritual and some of the historical and contemporary contributions that the Spiritual has made, and continues to make, to American music. This unique program will showcase music interwoven with narration and complemented by African-American poetry. Mrs. Jackson will be accompanied by John Ireland. Her husband, John Arter Jackson, will narrate the program. Start: 6:00 pm

Benefit and Rally in Memory of Mark Pacheco
Sunday March 21 from 6-11:00PM A benefit and Stop the Violence rally will be held in memory of Mark Pacheco, who died on Monday from injuries he suffered in an attack last week in Jamestown NY. The event will take place at the Sky Bar on the corner of Eighth Street and Jones and Gifford Avenue on Sunday from 6 to 11 p.m., and all money raised will help his family offset the funeral expenses. The event is being organized by Mark's longtime friend Marcos Figueroa. It was originally intended to help the family with medical expenses. When Mark passed away, Marcos decided to turn it into a larger event, addressing the increase in violence that has recently plagued Jamestown. Monday March 22, 2010

"Fire," Indian film by Deepa Mehta, to be screened for Women's History Month
The first in a trilogy by the director Deepa Mehta, "Fire" is a drama centered around two wives related by marriage in India. They are brought together by the oppressions of Indian traditions that force them into unwanted marital unions. The film demonstrates the harsh rules and expectations of women in the Indian culture and the emotional strains that results. The two women, in an attempt to overcome their difficulties, form a very moving, and sensual intimate relationship. The 1996 film was the first Indian film to explicitly show homosexual relations. First evidence that the 6 year-old war in Iraq is coming to an end for U.S. forces. Dan Rather Reports was on hand for the dismantling of one of the bases that was once a hot spot in the middle of the war. Now everything is being shipped to the U.S. or Afghanistan. Also, the remarkable women of Rwanda taking power. Host Dan Rather presents hard-edged field reports, in-depth interviews and investigative pieces that emphasize accuracy, fairness and guts in their reporting. The program will cover topics including, but not limited to, politics, the environment, the global economy, and international affairs and conflicts. The format of Dan Rather Reports is dictated by the needs of individual stories. Each show will typically consist of multiple stories, but some shows will be devoted to a single, hour-long report. In the spirit of celebrating Women’s History Month, The Women's Student Union and Women’s Studies Program of SUNY Fredonia will screen the film “Fire” on March 23, in Jewett Hall 101 at 7:30 p.m. The film is open for viewing by campus and community members free of charge.
