"As a father of two teenage sons and someone who has been deeply involved in public policy issues at the national, state, and local level for over 30 years, I believe this is the single most important issue of our generation," said Simmens. "When my children and grandchildren ask me if I knew about the climate crisis and what I did to fight it, I want to honestly tell them I played a role in helping communities and individuals understand the seriousness of the issue and be made aware of potential solutions. We all need to understand the significance of this issue and learn how to be part of the solution."

The Climate Project is a non-profit group working to make the public aware of the urgency, impact, and need for action to confront global warming. By bringing education, research, and citizen action groups together, the movement also seeks to inform government leaders about the consequences of climate change. Its first initiative, sponsored by Participant Productions, Inc., was the training of 1,000 lecturers to deliver the compelling slide presentation developed by The Hon. Al Gore, and reflected in the book and award-winning Paramount Films documentary – An Inconvenient Truth.
