SiCKO-Cure Road Show in Pgh
Come one, come all!
Welcome the Sicko-Cure Road Show to Pittsburgh!
Here’s a great opportunity to show your support for – to demand - a single payer health care system that provides everyone with comprehensive coverage for life.
Healthcare-NOW, the Physicians for a National Health Program and the California Nurses Association have banded together to sponsor a traveling road show to build momentum for passage of HR 676.
The SiCKO-CURE Road Show route will travel to eleven states from November12th through December 14th, arriving in Pittsburgh, the last stop of the national tour, on December 14th. This is the first of three tours that will travel to every part of the U.S..
People who've had a hard time getting any healthcare coverage, along with organizers, writers, film-makers and videographers will be riding the bus.
Senator Jim Ferlo, prime sponsor of Senate Bill 300, The Family and Business Health Security Act of 2007, is taking the lead in organizing a rousing welcome..
The W. PA. Coalition for Single Payer Health Care and PUSH are working with Jim to plan a big, fun and informative event at the City-County Building, 505 Grant St., Downtown.
There will be TV monitors set up at stations in the lobby with continuous showings of SiCKO; a space for people to give their individual testimonies on their healthcare situation, which will be filmed; there will be music and satirical skits.
The lobby will be like a convention site. People can write letters and sign postcards to legislators and political candidates in support of H.R. 676 and PA. SB 300/HB 1660 at the information tables. .
This is an important opportunity for people to give a big boost to what is a growing movement.
Ways to help:
*Help with the organizing. We need people to volunteer to help promote the event, set up that day, make signs, get out mailings, leaflet, etc. Contact Sandy Fox s2fox@yahoo.com
*Invite your organization or faith community to co-sponsor the event and announce it to their members.
*Invite family and friends to a house party to see an excerpt from SiCKO and discuss single payer health care with one of our speakers.

SiCKO is the acclaimed documentary on the health care system and how to fix it. It features ordinary Americans whose health insurance did not cover the diseases and accidents their plans should have paid for and whose prescription drugs were unaffordable. Like Donna and Larry Smith, both in their 50s, both career workers, both with HMOs. But when she got cancer and he had heart trouble, the bills mounted so fast that they had to sell their home and move to Denver into their daughter's basement. That humiliation saved them just enough money that they could spend the rest of their life savings on treatment and medication.
As TIME Magazine put it, “Moore isn't the first to say that the health care system is sick — that it's riddled with inequities and iniquities. He's never the first to address a gut issue, whether it's corporate greed (Roger & Me), American violence (Bowling for Columbine), the politics of terror (Fahrenheit 9/11). But he's the one who does it the noisiest, with the highest entertainment value, mixing muckraking with showmanship, Ida Tarbell with P.T. Barnum. His new movie …fits honorably in that tradition. As both harangue and movie tragicomedy, Sicko is socko”.
It is now available in DVD.
