Vigil to Close Guantanamo and Bagram, Stop Torture
Vigil to Close Guantanamo and Bagram, Stop Torture
Thursday, January 21, 2010
4:30 pm – 5:00 pm
Federal Building in Erie
On his second day as president, Barack Obama signed an executive order to close the Guantanamo prison within one year and end the eight year long legal and human rights disaster conjured up by the Bush administration.
January 22, 2010 ought to be the day that Guantanamo closes and habeus corpus is restored. Instead, Mr. Obama has broken his promises for justice. While prisoners already cleared for release remain in prison cells we at Mary the Apostle Catholic Worker have been fasting and acting for justice with our friends at Witness Against Torture (www.witnesstorture.org)
Join us for our local vigil at the Federal Building calling for freedom for captives, the end of torture and the restoration of habeus corpus. We vigil in solidarity with a direct action planned for January 21, 2010 by Witness Against Torture in Washington, D.C.
