Best-selling Authors to Present Women’s History Month Keynote at Allegheny College
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Best-selling authors Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards – marking the publication of the 10th anniversary edition of “Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future” – will speak on Tuesday, March 2 at 7 p.m. in Quigley Hall auditorium at Allegheny College. The free public presentation is the keynote address for the Women’s History Month celebration at Allegheny.
Baumgardner and Richards have collaborated on issues of interest to young women since they met as 22-year-olds working for Ms. magazine. In 2002 they founded Soapbox Inc: Speakers Who Speak Out, a speakers’ bureau that represents prominent writers and activists such as Carol Moseley Braun, Irshad Manji, Katha Pollitt and Gloria Steinem. Baumgardner and Richards’ second book, “Grassroots: A Field Guide for Feminist Activism,” was published in 2005.
A reception and book signing will follow the presentation. For more information, contact Associate Professor of Women’s Studies and Psychology Deborah Dickey at (814) 332-3278.
